We recognise the incidences of racism and hate crime during this Pandemic time as reported in the news media. It is necessary to address concerns and create awareness that we all care for each other regardless of nationality. We can only be strong if we stay united and stop discriminatory acts of behaviour.
OCCSC is pleased to support CCNC for actions of anti-racism and anti-hate crimes. The Chinese Canadian National Council Toronto Chapter has refined a tool for online reporting of hate and racist incidents. The tool is now ready for use. It will be translated into English, French, Simplified and Traditional Chinese. Please see link below.
We are very pleased to see that the Ottawa Police, Ottawa Public Health and the City of Ottawa will make every effort to educate, encourage reporting, and when necessary pursue an investigation. A community poster in English, French and Chinese to urge reporting is now available.
The message is that if something similar happened to you or someone you know; you are encouraged to report it. Anyone with information is asked to visit OttawaPolice.ca or call Detective Ali Toghrol of the Ottawa Police Service Hate Crime Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5453. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or at crimestoppers.ca. Check the link below for information.
